How to Become a Mentor

To become a mentor at VU, you should:

be a member of the VU teaching staff;
be motivated to share your experience and help the newly recruited lecturers achieve their goals;
be able to dedicate at least one hour per month to meeting with the mentee/Programme participant (newcomer to VU);
fill in the mentor registration form, describing your field of expertise as accurately as possible;
within 48 hours after registration, you should receive a profile confirmation email and become a publicly visible VU mentor;
having received an email invitation from a colleague, make a YES or NO decision and start communication.

To ensure a smooth mentoring process, especially when the mentor works individually with the mentee, the following recommendations should be taken into account:

During the first meeting, the mentor and the mentee should draft a brief mentoring programme (including the objectives, activities, meeting schedule, and expected results) and agree on dates for future meetings and the most appropriate communication methods.
If you have any questions or issues, please contact the coordinators of the Mentoring Programme.
Please make sure you participate in the reflection sessions organised by the Educational Competence Centre (on the implementation and progress of the ongoing processes). You should prepare to present the goals, objectives, challenges, and results to lecturers and mentors.
