Call for Proposals

The Educational Competence Centre of the Study Quality and Development Division of Vilnius University (VU) invites the VU teaching staff to apply for funding to implement educational initiatives. Funding will be provided for updating and developing course units (modules) to promote greater student involvement.

The proposed initiatives must pursue at least one of the following objectives of the Fund for Educational Initiatives:

  • developing students’ research competencies and analytical skills
  • improving graduates’ general competencies (i.e. cooperation, responsibility, interculturalism, problem-solving, and openness to change)
  • utilising information technology for the purposeful and effective teaching and learning process
  • implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in the study process
  • developing interdisciplinary studies in line with the VU Concept of Interdisciplinary Studies

Funding is provided for initiatives focusing on the following outcomes:

  • preparing active teaching and learning material (guided case studies, activity packs for teaching/learning and assessment, tests, simulations, methodological learning material, etc.)
  • applying active teaching and learning methods (case studies, game-based methods (gamification), concept mapping, problem-solving, group assignments or projects, debates, the flipped classroom, virtual exchanges, peer review, field research, academic trips, excursions, laboratory and practical work, experiments, etc.), and exploring their application in the educators’ teaching practice

Application Requirements

  • The proposed initiatives must pursue at least one of the objectives of the Fund for Educational Initiatives.
  • The funded initiative must be launched within the same calendar year.
  • The initiative must be implemented for up to one year.

Applicants may receive up to 100 per cent of funding for the implementation of their proposed educational initiatives.

The main category of expenses eligible for funding is remuneration for preparing and developing course units. Funding may also be provided to acquire resources essential for process implementation (programming, technical support, etc.). Funding is not provided to cover teaching hours.
The funds to be provided are calculated at the minimum hourly rate for research work by position established by Vilnius University.

Please submit the application in the prescribed format to the Educational Competence Centre of the Study Quality and Development Division via the VU document management system ‘Avilys’.

The application must be approved by the deputy head for studies of the academic unit where the specific initiative is to be implemented and signed by its initiator (for more details, see the section on Educational Initiatives).
