National Research Projects
Modelling transmedial communication framework for resilient media and informational integrity of society (TRANSINTEGRAL). Research Council of Lithuania. Implemented together with Vytautas Magnus University. 2023-2025. Prof. Dr A. Vaišnys (leader of the local team), Assoc. Prof. Dr R. Šukaitytė-Coenen, Prof. Dr Gintaras Aleknonis, Assist. Prof. Dr R. Stonytė, doctoral student R. Kupetytė.
The project analyses the production of knowledge in the transmedia ecosystem, where systemic media (written, visual, oral, etc.), influenced by professional norms and principles, and non-systemic communicators, i.e., alternative media and agents, are active. The qualitative characteristics of the transmediadigital ecosystem will be defi ned through an analysis of knowledge production (in terms of the selection, verifi cation and factuality of information), which, when assessed in the light of changing digital media policies and communication rights, will allow recommendations to be made for the development of the information integrity of society. The project presents an analytical approach (macro-mezzo-micro levels of analysis) that views the development of an integral and resilient society asa dynamic process of interaction between technological and social change, and the tradition of public information that emerges from a specific context. A combination of actions taken at these three levels will create the foundation for a sustainable democracy.

Lithuanian journalism in the context of political, economic and social risks (Nr. S-MIP-22-19). Research Council of Lithuania. Assoc. Prof. Dr D. Jastramskis (project leader), doctoral student R. Kupetytė, Dr Ingrida Gečienė-Janulionė, Assist. Prof. Dr Giedrė Plepytė-Davidavičienė. 2022–2024.
The aim of the project is to investigate the political, economic and social risk factors of Lithuanian journalism and to examine the situation of Lithuanian journalism in the context of these factors.
The project will analyse the political, economic and social circumstances that have influenced the development of Lithuanian journalism. A survey of journalists working in Lithuania will be carried out, assessing the political, economic and social influences on journalists, the editorial autonomy of journalists, and the safety and uncertainty of journalists in their professional environment.

Protests and actions of the ‘Lithuanian Family Movement’ 2021-2023: dominant visual tropes in Lithuanian media. Research Council of Lithuania, S-ST-23-170, 2023-2024. Assoc. Prof. Dr R.Šukaitytė (project leader), postgraduate student-researcher K. Meidutė.

The research practice will include a qualitative study of the visual communication of the protests and actions of the Lithuanian Family Movement in 2021-2023. It will analyze which visual tropes of this communication dominate the professional Lithuanian media and what frames they imply for the reception of this phenomenon. The data will be collected in six news portals (LRT, Delfi, 15min, TV3, Diena, and Lrytas) for a more critical than qualitative analysis to be unbiased. The research aims to enrich and broaden the field of research on civic and political movements in Lithuania from the perspective of visual communication. It also contributes to the research on global protests and actions rapidly developed by media researchers in various fields, especially in political communication, social media, mass media, cinema, and photography.

International Research Projects
Transforming data rE-use in ARCHaeology. CHANSE European Humanities and Social Sciences Collaboration project, funded by the Lithuanian Science Council. Prof. Dr R. Laužikas, Assist. Dr Ingrida Kelpšienė, doctoral student Indrė Jovaišaitė-Blaževičienė. 2022–2025.
The project embraces three scales of data collection in archaeology–landscape, site and artefact–exploring them via four increasingly ubiquitous technologies for data capture: airborne LiDAR, 3D scanning, digital field drawing and photography. Alongside novel workflows for field, post-excavation and archival practice, TEtrARCHs will produce the world’s first controlled vocabulary for cultural heritage storytelling, the first assessments of data reuse effectiveness following ISO Standard 25022: Measurement of Quality in Use, and the first best practice recommendations for trusted digital repositories to optimise archaeological data for re-use.

Identity on the Line (I-ON) (No. EACEA 34/2018). Project co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union and Research Council of Lithuania. Project manager – Assist. Dr N. Latvytė. Project administrator – doctoral student D. Armakauskaitė. Experts – Assoc. Prof. Dr J. Blažiūnas, Assoc. Prof. Dr R. Repšienė, Assoc. Prof. Dr L. Murinienė, Dr T. Božerocki. 2019–2023.
From October 2022 to March 2023, the exhibition "Identity on the Line" was on display at Lukiškių square, and meetings with one of the exhibition's curators, Dr Neringa Latvyte, took place.
On 26 April 2023, a meeting of the partners of the international project Identity on the Line (I-ON) took place in Brussels. During the meeting, project participants and MEPs analysed the long-term impact of migration on future generations. The round table discussion "The Migration Experience: a three-generation perspective" was the final event of the four-year I-ON project. The international project also developed recommendations for policy makers on how to address the challenges of migration. The recommendations include initiatives to raise awareness about long-term traumatic experiences and consequences for individuals, families and societies. The recommendations also highlight how we can reduce stereotypes about migrants in public discourse.

Reclaimed Avant-garde (No. 11H 17 0144 85). Project funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland. Assoc. Prof. Dr M. Petrikas. 2018–2023.
International research and artistic project were initiated by the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute on the occasion of the Avant-garde Year 2017. It refers directly to theatre projects of the first half of the 20th century in Central and Eastern Europe, as a source of inspiration for contemporary artists, redefining at the same time a phenomenon of the historical avant-garde from the present perspective developed by historians and culture practitioners from this region.
The core of the project is an international team of experts from Central and Eastern Europe. The main goal of the team is to create a permanent international and transnational platform of cooperation between institutions and organizations interested in theatre, including defining common features of theatre culture in this part of the continent. The task of the team is to prepare an anthology and a lexicon presenting a panorama of the theatrical avant-garde of Central and Eastern Europe, which takes into account its diversity in the international context as well as the interdisciplinary dimension of this phenomenon.

Saving European Archaeology from the Digital Dark Age. CA COST Action CA18128. Funded by the EU Framework Programme Horizon 2020. Prof. Julian Richards (University of York Archaeology Data Service, UK). Prof. Dr R. Laužikas, Asist. Dr I. Kelpšienė, Prof. Dr A. Gudinavičius. 2019–2023.
The main aim and objective of the Action is to mitigate the loss of primary archaeological data by developing common understandings around the stewardship of digital archaeological data, building new best-practice networks to support the preservation and open dissemination of archaeological data, and the creation of more inclusive research partnerships.
Making archaeological data open and freely accessible is a priority across EuropeHowever, but the domain lacks appropriate, persistent repositories. Due to the fragility of digital data and non-repeatable nature of most archaeological research, the domain is poised to lose a generation of research to the Digital Dark Age. The aim of the network is to bring archaeologists and data management specialists together to share expertise, and create resources that allow them to address problems in the most appropriate way.

2. The study was bound by (i) the reuse of digital archaeological archives; (ii) orientation to content usability and reusability; (iii) maintaining a user-orientated approach; (iv) collecting data from professionals in archaeology and heritage. The research group members adopted the quality-in-use conceptual approach for this study.

Interactive Narrative Design for Complexity Representations. COST Action CA18230. 2019–2023. The coordination activities are supported by the EU Horizon 2020 programme. COST member of the management committee (MC) – Prof. Dr A. Šuminas, MC substitute – Assist. Dr J. Zamauskė.
The aim of this COST action is to build a network for the interdisciplinary study of the potential interactive digital narrative as a means to addressing complexity as a societal challenge by representing, experiencing and comprehending complex phenomena and thus also address the issue of "fake news". The challenge therefore is to change IDNs current status from ‘singular achievement’ of a small group of ‘initiated’ practitioners to ‘general practice’ of many media companies. The INDCOR project (Interactive Narrative Design for Complexity Representations) addresses this challenge by means of a coordinated effort in analyzing and generalizing design and production methods of stand-out IDN works with a particular focus on the representation of complex issues.

Multidisciplinary Innovation for Social Change. COST Action CA18236. 2019–2023. The coordination activities are supported by the EU Horizon 2020 programme. COST member of the management committee (MC) – Prof. Dr E. Macevičiūtė.
The aim of this Action is to demonstrate, through the adoption of Multi-Disciplinary Innovation (MDI) methods, how we can respond to social problems with a design-led approach which has a problem-oriented ethos, supporting positive social change and the development of international public policy discourse. It will be achieved through the establishment of a Pan-European Public Sector Innovation (ePSI) lab. It will prepare students for roles in employment by integrating education programs into the lab's operations and it will support agencies that have a role in responding to and developing public policy.

Investigation on Comics and Graphic Novels in the Iberian Cultural Area. COST Action CA19119. 2020–2024. The coordination activities are supported by the EU Horizon 2020 programme. COST member of the management committee (MC) –Prof. Dr A. Gudinavičius, MC substitute – Prof. Dr A. Šuminas.
The iCOn-MICS Action aims at carrying out Investigation on Comics and Graphic Novels from the Iberian Cultural Area (Spain, Portugal, and Latin America). Today, Iberian comics are struggling to position themselves on the global scene particularly because of past political and economic crises and a strong lack of recognition. Moreover, research works are very scattered leading to redundant initiatives and sources are not easily accessible. iCOn-MICS will address it by structuring an international federating network of researchers, professionals, and end-users on Iberian comics to gather research works and improve access to it and to the sources; strengthening its dissemination and preservation; and improving practices for using comics as an educational tool to highlight and improve the image of this medium. To achieve those objectives, the network integrates 11 European countries, including 7 ITCs and 3 countries of Latin America (IPCs).
