Zelikas Pomerancas (1920–?) was born in Vilnius (father – Izaokas). In 1939, he was already working or studying at Stephen Báthory University, as indicated in the title pages of his preparation book found in a personal file kept in the archives of Vilnius University. In 1940, he entered the Department of Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University. He completed two semesters there, but on 19 September 1941 he was expelled from the university on the basis of the Order of 17 September 1941 of the Higher Education Department of the Board of Education, under the authority of the National Socialists. According to the database Deportations and Imprisonment of the Lithuanian Population in the Soviet Union, it can be assumed that Zelikas Pomerancas was in exile, and his father Chaimas Izaokas (1894) was likely mentioned among the deportees. As of 1945 he resumed his studies (as evidenced by his student’s record book) and was granted a medical degree in 1949.
