Zita Staškevičiūtė (1924–1983) was born in Troškūnai town (father – Juozas Staškevičius). After graduating from Troškūnai Primary School in 1940, she entered Panevėžys Girls’ Gymnasium but stopped studying due to a lack of funds and the need for assistance at home. In 1944, she arrived in Vilnius and entered Vilnius Adult Gymnasium, graduating in 1947. In the same year, she applied to the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Vilnius University. She was accepted; however, she got under arrest and was deported to the Krasnoyarsk Krai in 1948. From Krasnoyarsk in 1951, she lodged a request to Vilnius University to receive her admission documents. Based on the information in the database Deportations and Imprisonment of the Lithuanian Population in the Soviet Union, it can be assumed that she returned to Lithuania in 1960.
