Tadas Masiulis (1924–1998) was born in Kaunas. He studied at the Primary School of the Lithuanian Catholic Teachers’ Union and later graduated from M. Pečkauskaitė Gymnasium, completing six forms. In 1940, he moved to Vilnius and entered Vytautas Magnus Gymnasium, graduating in 1941. In the same year, he applied to the Department of Physics and Chemistry of the Faculty of Mathematics and Nature of Vilnius University. He was probably admitted as a hospitant because he was “promoted to the student ranks” in 1942, upon lodging an application. He did not manage to finish his studies because in 1946 he was arrested for reasons unknown and deported to Karaganda. In 1955, he sent a request to Vilnius University to submit documents certifying his studies, as he wanted to study at Karaganda Mountain Institute.
