Bronė Giedrytė-Stapulionienė (1925–2021) was born in Elmiškis village, Anykščiai parish, Utena county (father – Petras Giedrys, brother – Jonas Giedrys). In 1932, she started attending a primary school in Elmiškis. Having graduating from the school in 1935, she did not study anywhere due to a lack of funds. In 1938, she entered Debeikiai Primary School and completed the fifth form there. In 1940, she enrolled in Utena Gymnasium, graduating in 1946. In August of the same year, she applied to the Department of Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University. At the same time, she submitted a second application to the Department of Pedagogy of the Faculty of History and Philology of Vilnius University. She was admitted to the latter, as is evident looking at her personal file. In October of the same year, she asked to be transferred from the Faculty of History and Philology to the Faculty of Chemistry, and the request was granted. In 1949, she chose the specialisation of organic chemistry. In the same year, she started working at the School of Midwifery as a secretary-typist. In 1949, the woman’s parents and sister were deported to the Irkutsk Oblast. In 1950, she was expelled from Vilnius University “for deliberately concealing knowledge about social origins”. In 1952, she asked for permission to graduate, but although the application was approved, she was sent to the Irkutsk Oblast the same year. From Irkutsk in 1953, she sent a request to the university asking to send her the remaining documents there because she wanted to study in exile. In 1954, the university sent the documents attesting to these studies. Bronė entered the Faculty of Chemistry of Irkutsk State University. In 1955, she sent yet another request to Vilnius university, asking to find out if she had taken a course in theoretical physics there. She returned from exile in April 1958.
