Zelma Rozenfeldaitė was born on 3 November 1919 into the family of Dovidas and Rivka Rozenfeldas in Marijampolė. From 1928–1936, Zelma attended the Jewish gymnasium in Marijampolė. Upon graduation she became a student in the Philology Department of the Faculty of Humanities of Vilnius University. She did not finish her studies as on 19 September 1941 Zelma was expelled from the university on the basis of the Order of 17 September 1941 of the Higher Education Department of the Board of Education, which was subordinate to the Nazis. She stayed in Vilnius and was killed there in 1941. Her parents, Dovidas and Rivka, were both killed in Marijampolė in 1941.
