Vytautas Petras Vėbra was born in a farmers’ family in Buivydžiai village, Pandėlys rural district, Rokiškis county. From 1932 to 1936, Vytautas Petras went to a primary school in Pandėlys. He continued his education at Rokiškis progymnasium and then at Rokiškis gymnasium of Canon Tumas-Vaižgantas, which he finished in spring 1943. In 1944, Vytautas Petras became a student at the Pharmacology Department of the Medical Faculty of Vilnius University. A year later he asked to be transferred to finance and credit studies at the Faculty of Economics, but his studies were disrupted by exile: in 1949, during the mass deportation operation ‘The Surf’, he was deported to Irkutsk region. In 1959, he wrote to Vilnius University asking for his documents as he intended studying in Irkutsk. He returned to Lithuania in 1964.
