Hilelis Kraceris was born on 8 July 1919 in Kaunas. In 1932, he was admitted to the third form of the Kaunas Yavne gymnasium for boys with instruction in Hebrew and studied there until 1939. Although he was not very adept at natural sciences and Lithuanian, Kraceris was described as a well-behaved youth. In 1939, he became a student in the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Vilnius University where he also distinguished himself as a diligent student. On 19 September 1941, having completed three semesters of studies, Hilelis Kraceris was expelled from the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Vilnius University on the basis of the Order of 17 September 1941 of the Higher Education Department of the Board of Education, which was subordinate to the Nazis. No information has been found about the fate of Hilelis Kraceris.
