Domicelė Mimaitė was born in Rundžiai village, Žemaitkiemis rural district, Ukmergė county. From 1937 to 1941, Domicėlė went to a primary school in Žemaitkiemis. In 1941, she was admitted to the 2nd Gymnasium for Girls in Ukmergė and finished it in 1948. At school she took an active part in sports and in history and literature clubs. In the same year she became a student at the Faculty of Chemistry of Vilnius University. However, her studies were disrupted by Soviet repression: in 1949 Domicėlė Mimaitė was deported. She wrote to Vilnius University from exile asking for her school-leaving certificate as she intended studying at another institution of higher education. Domicėlė Mimaitė returned to Lithuania in 1957.
