Bronislava Bezaraitė was born in Urkuvėnai village, Kuršėnai rural district, Šiauliai county. In 1936, she started Žygaičiai primary school and later went to a primary school in Kuršėnai. In 1945, Bronislava finished six forms but due to serious material hardships had to abandon further education. Yet her desire to study took her forward. She moved to Vilnius and with her brother’s help went to a gymnasium for adults in Vilnius. She finished it in 1947 and became a student at the Faculty of Forestry of Vilnius University. Bezaraitė studied until March 1949, when with her family she was deported during the mass deportation operation ‘The Surf’. In August 1956, Bronislava Bezaraitė wrote to the rector of Vilnius University asking for her school-leaving certificate to be sent to her from the university archives as she needed it to enter another educational institution. Bronislava was released from exile in 1957.
