Adolfas Jočys was born in Kupiškis. When his family moved to Ukmergė county, Adolfas went to a primary school in Miegučiai, which he finished in 1937. In 1939, he finished the sixth form of Šešuoliai school and continued his education at the boys’ gymnasium ‘Aušra’ in Kaunas. The turmoil of historical events took him back to his native place: in 1941 he moved to the gymnasium of Kupiškis which he successfully finished in 1945. In the same year he became a student of the Medical Faculty of Vilnius University. Unfortunately, Adolfas did not graduate from the university. While in his last year of studies, he, like many thousands of Lithuanians, was deported to Irkutsk region during the mass deportation operation ‘The Surf”. In 1950, Adolfas Jočys received an official note about his studies that he intended to use to continue his education in the fourth year at Irkutsk Medical Institute. He was released from exile in 1955, but it was only in 1971 that he returned to Lithuania.
