Adelė Žemaitytė-Čepelienė (1931–2018) was born in Utena. In 1949, she graduated from Utena Gymnasium and on 8 July that same year, entered the Faculty of Chemistry at Vilnius State University. On 18 August 1949, she filed a request to be transferred from the Faculty of Chemistry to the Faculty of Economics, and her application was approved. In the questionnaire for obtaining a Memory Diploma, Žemaitytė’s family notes the fact that shortly after she shared her memories on the exile of her parents and brothers, she was summoned to the Rector, who gave her the choice of withdrawing from the university voluntarily or being otherwise expelled. The student’s file contains the Order of the Rector of 16 November 1951 to expel Žemaitytė from the university “at her own request” on the grounds of “poor attendance”. According to the database “Lithuanians in Siberia”, her parents and brothers were exiled to the Krasnoyarsk Region in 1951.
