Jankelis Kušneris (1921–?) was born in Kaunas. In 1938, he graduated from the private Jewish Gymnasium in Kaunas. In 1939, he entered the Construction Department at the Technical Faculty of Vytautas Magnus University. A few months later, he applied to be transferred to the Department of Physics and Chemistry at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the same university. In 1939, Kušneris entered the Chemistry Department at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Vilnius University. On 19 September 1941, he was expelled from the university by the Order of 17 September 1941 of the Department of Higher Education under the Board of Education, which was subordinate to the National Socialists. According to the “Yad Vashem” database, Kušneris was killed during the Holocaust.
