Leja Bulkinowna (Leja Bulkinaitė) (1920–1941) was born in Vilnius into a family of teachers. In 1937, she graduated from the private Vilnius General Education Gymnasium of the Jewish Education Committee. In 1940, she entered the Biology Department at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Vilnius University. On 19 September 1941, Bulkinaitė was expelled from the university by the Order of 17 September 1941 of the Department of Higher Education under the Board of Education, which was subordinate to the National Socialists. According to the “Yad Vashem” database, she was killed during the Holocaust in Paneriai.
