Gesia Markutė (1922–?) was born in Vilnius in the family of Gercas Markus and Rebeka Medajskaitė. From 1931 to 1939, she studied at Panevėžys Jewish Private Gymnasium with Hebrew as the language of instruction. In 1939, Markutė filed an application to study at the Department of Philology of the Faculty of Humanities of Vytautas Magnus University. It can be assumed that in 1940, she was transferred to the Department of Philology of the Faculty of Humanities of Vilnius University. It was not possible for Markutė to complete her studies because, on 19 September 1941, she was expelled from the university on the basis of the Order of 17 September 1941 of the Department of Higher Education of the Board of Education, which was subordinate to the National Socialists. She was imprisoned in the Vilna Ghetto. Yad Vashem's records show that she perished.
