Mnucha Basokaitė (1918–1941?) was born in Minsk, into the family of Dina and Zalman Basokas. In 1933, she graduated from the Tarbut Gymnasium in Vilnius. However, due to financial constraints, Basokaitė could not continue her education, and in 1936, she started teaching courses at Lazaris Gurvičius’ school. Later, she taught at a rural school in Ostrowo. When World War II broke out, Basokaitė returned to Vilnius, where she worked as a teacher at the Shul Kult School. On 12 September 1940, Basokaitė applied to study at the Philosophy Department of the Faculty of Humanities of Vilnius University. She was admitted to the university as a proper student, but soon her status was changed to “unclassified student”, and as a result, she was at risk of losing her scholarship. She appealed to the Rector of the university, but the Rector did not decide in her favour. Basokaitė’s studies did not last for long. By 19 September 1941, she had already been expelled from the university on the basis of the Order of the Department of Higher Education of the Board of Education. According to the Yad Vashem database, Basokaitė was killed during the Holocaust.
