Bakanauskaitė Rožė (1924-?) was born in Margionys village, Marcinkonys parish, Alytus county, into the family of farmers Tomas Bakanauskas and Juzė Trainavičiūtė. After completing four forms in the village of Margionys, she came to Vilnius and completed a six-form primary school. In 1940, she entered Vilnius II Girls’ Gymnasium. In 1945, she attended an adult gymnasium. In the same year, she enrolled as a free listener at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Vilnius University. In December, she contacted the Rector about a lost student book, which suggests that she became an official student of the University. From December 1945 onwards, there is no record of Rožė Bakanauskaitė in the files of Vilnius University archives. In 1946, she was exiled to Siberia (to the Perm Oblast) because of her contacts with the partisans. She later returned from exile.
