Naruševičius Kazys (1920-2004) was born in Dūdonys village, Panevėžys county, into the family of Jurgis Naruševičius and Adela Valantonytė. From the age of seven he attended Rėkliai Primary School. In 1938-1940, he attended Panevėžys State Boys’ Gymnasium and successfully graduated. In the period of 1940-1945, he studied painting at Vilnius Art Institute. In 1941, he applied to study at the Department of Philology of the Faculty of Humanities at Vilnius University. He was most likely accepted as a free listener because a year later he applied to be “promoted to students”. This application was favourably received. In November 1942, he applied for a transfer from the Department of Philology to the Lithuanian Art History Group of the Department of History. This request was also favourably received, with a notation “Agree to register in the second semester”. In 1944, he submitted his last application to study at the Department of History of the Faculty of History and Philology of Vilnius University. Although the application was positively assessed (with the notation “Admit to the second year”), there is no further information about his studies. According to the documents of the People’s Commissariat for State Security of the LSSR, Kazys was arrested in 1945 and imprisoned in Lukiškės until 1946, which deprived him of the opportunity to continue his studies. He worked as an art teacher in 1950-1968. In 1967-1990, he taught painting at Panevėžys Art School. He was rehabilitated in 1996. In 1997 he was awarded the title of a distinguished citizen of Panevėžys, and in 1999 he became an honorary citizen of Panevėžys.
