Professor of Vilnius University is a recognised leader in their field of research and studies in Lithuania; it is the highest teaching position at the University. The professor’s responsibilities include scientific research and/or experimental development activities as well as disseminating their results at national and international levels, research-based studies, contributing to the training of researchers and lecturers, providing expert recommendations, carrying out educational activities, educating society at large and/or disseminating achievements of culture.
Description and responsibilities of the position:
It is expected that the professor will perform scientific research of international and high national level individually (and/or in a team with other researchers) in the field of Natural Sciences, Biology and will publish the results of their research in international peer-reviewed journals with citation index. The research professor will submit proposals for research project funding and will implement the projects; convene teams of researchers and lead them; teach students in Lithuanian and/or English (Molecular biology, Gene engineering courses for bachelor students), prepare methodological material for studies; supervise final theses of students, doctoral dissertations and/or postdoctoral interns. As an expert in their field, they will provide insights and recommendations to society, when necessary. They will maintain professional relations with their colleagues abroad and will take an active part in national and international associations in their field. They will promote Molecular biology specialisation, career and Molecular biology studies. They will implement other functions assigned to a professor related to studies, research, methodological and organisational activity, as provided for in the legal acts of the University: supervision of the quality and content of the study program (involvement in the activities of the study program committee), development of research topics concerning microbial antibiotic resistance and pathogenesis molecular mechanisms of opportunistic pathogens, research of the human and environmental microbiome composition and function.
Required qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Physical Sciences (Biochemistry).
Supervision of a doctoral student and/or postdoctoral intern.
Ability to teach in Lithuanian and English.

In case the candidates are of equal standing, the following will be considered an advantage:
Experience in teaching molecular biology and gene engineering courses, preparing and conducting practical classes in the field of Molecular biology, preparing methodological study materials; supervising students' bachelor's and master's theses and projects; organizing and supervising the process of the molecular biology study program, promoting and publicizing the molecular biology specialization and career; participating in the process of training doctoral students; practical experience in the fields of molecular biology, molecular microbiology, microbial genetics, genetic engineering, supervising scientific projects.

Starting at: 01 September 2025, duration of contract – 5 years.
Workload: 0.5 half-time post.
Official salary: 1960 EUR (before tax).
