CALL FOR COMPETITION FOR A POSITION

Professor (Cyber Security)

Professor of Vilnius University is a recognized leader in their field of research and studies in Lithuania; it is the highest teaching position at the University. The professor’s responsibilities include scientific research and/or experimental development activities as well as disseminating their results at national and international levels, research-based studies, contributing to the training of researchers and lecturers, providing expert recommendations, carrying out educational activities, educating society at large and/or disseminating achievements of culture. 

Description and responsibilities of the position: 

It is expected that the professor will perform scientific research at international and high national levels individually (and/or in a team with other researchers) in the field of Natural sciences/Computer Science and will publish the results of their research in high-quality (1st or 2nd quartile) Computer Science or multidisciplinary journals and high-level scientific conferences. The research professor will submit proposals for research project funding and implement the projects; convene and lead teams of researchers; teach students in Lithuanian and English languages for Bachelor and Master students in computer science programs. Will teach cybersecurity subjects and prepare methodological material for studies; supervise final theses of students, doctoral dissertations, and/or postdoctoral interns. As an expert in their field, the successful applicant will provide insights and recommendations to society, when necessary, on public national outlets. The position includes maintaining and enhancing professional relations with colleagues abroad and will take an active part in national and international associations in their field. The professor will promote the specialty of Computer science (broader field of informatics) specialization and computer science with aspects of cybersecurity studies. They will implement other functions assigned to a professor related to studies, research, methodological and organizational activity, as provided for in the legal acts of the University.

Required qualifications:

Doctoral degree in Computer Science or Informatics.

Supervision of a doctoral student and/or postdoctoral intern.

Ability to teach fluently and prepare digital study material in Lithuanian and English.

Managing research group or lab with the work related to cybersecurity

Have experience in writing proposals for R&D project in European.

As a researcher is established in the field of Computer science connecting cybersecurity topics and has experience in multidisciplinary research.

Experience of R&D and innovation projects in leading role.

In case the candidates are of equal standing, the following will be considered an advantage:

International experience volume in research (other than applicant country).

International experience in publishing research papers with co-authors from abroad (other than the applicant country).

Number of applications and projects related to cybersecurity managed and executed.

Number of cybersecurity-related publications.

Number of courses that the applicant can teach in the field of computer science relating to aforementioned cybersecurity topics.

Has experience organizing cyber defence exercises for students at national and international level.

Starting at: 01 September 2025, duration of contract – 5 years.

Workload: 1 full-time post. 

Official salary: 3920 EUR (before tax)
