Professor (Information systems and database management (social science perspective), media, information and data analytics)

Faculty of Communication.

Professor of Vilnius University is a recognised leader in their field of research and studies in Lithuania; it is the highest teaching position at the University. The professor’s responsibilities include scientific research and/or experimental development activities as well as disseminating their results at national and international levels, research-based studies, contributing to the training of researchers and lecturers, providing expert recommendations, carrying out educational activities, educating society at large and/or disseminating achievements of culture. 

Description and responsibilities of the position: 

It is expected that the professor will be expected to carry out independent and/or collaborative research in the social sciences in the field of information and communication at national and international levels, publishing research results in high-level national and international journals, presenting papers at international and national conferences and otherwise ensuring the dissemination of research results. Initiate national and international research projects, submit funding applications, manage the implementation of research projects, and organise and lead research teams. Teach courses in the field of information science and communication in the social sciences in the first, second and third cycle study programmes in Lithuanian and English, prepare methodological material for studies. Supervise final written theses for students at all levels, doctoral dissertations and/or postdoctoral fellowships. Provide expert insights and recommendations in his/her field of expertise Develop and maintain international scientific relations and participate in international scientific networks. Actively participate in international and national associations in their field. Promote research and studies in the field of information and communication. Perform other functions of a professor provided for in the University's legal acts concerning scientific, study, methodological, dissemination and organisational activities.

Required qualifications:

PhD or equivalent in humanities and social science.

Supervision of a doctoral student and/or postdoctoral intern.

Ability to teach in Lithuanian and English languages.

Experience in work with PhD students.

Ability to prepare and implement national and international research projects.

In case the candidates are of equal standing, the following will be considered an advantage:

Achievement of scientific publications in the field of information and communication, their visibility and impact indexation in international databases (Web of Science, Scopus).

Amount of science communication through presentations in international conferences in the field of information and communication. 

Experience in leading national and international research projects in the field of social sciences (communication and information). 

Experience in developing and implementing undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes.

Starting at: 01 September 2025, duration of contract – 5 years.

Workload: 1 full-time post. 

Official salary: 3920 EUR (before tax)
