Analysis of Changes in Knowledge Society. Prof. Z. Atkočiūnienė. 2012–2016.

The purpose of the research is to examine the efficiency of human communication processes and the impact of information technologies on the change of knowledge society. The theme of the research is pursued by carrying out theoretical and applied research on organisational communication, public relations, mass media, information and knowledge management, information and communication law and information technologies. In 2013 national conference Information and communication theory’s and practice’s expression was organised under research goals.

Projects Supported by University Budget

The Social Role of the Production and Communication of Museality in a Changing World. Prof. Pieter van Mensch, Assoc. Prof. R. Laužikas. 2013–2017.

Aims of the project are to investigate: the production of museality as a form of social capital in a participatory culture; the interaction between the professional museological infrastructure and its stakeholders in the process of musealisation and the role of heritage in cultural dialogue and social communication in a globalizing world.

International Research Projects

CARARE (Connecting Archaeology and Architecture in Europeana). Funded under the European Commission’s ICT Policy Support Programme. 2010–2013.

Main aims of the project was to involve and support Europe’s network of heritage agencies and organisations, archaeological museums and research institutions and specialists of digital archives in making the digital content for the archaeology and architectural heritage that they hold available through Europeana, aggregating content and delivering services and enabling access to 3D and Virtual Reality content through Europeana.

Main scientific results in 2013 (Department of Museology as partner): creating know-how and applied knowledge in fields of CARARE metadata scheme, interoperability between CARARE IS and local information systems, using 3D for general public.

The aim of the project is to analyse traditional and digital media and their role in traditional and network societies. Main research results in 2013 were: 13 articles published in volumes of a scholarly journal Knygotyra (Book Science) and in two collections of articlesGood Book, Good Library, Good Reading: Studies in the History of the Book, Libraries and Reading from the Network HIBOLIRE and its Friends and Egodocuments and Lithuanian private space from 16th to 20th centuries; a source publications by Domas Kaunas Towards the books of Lithuania Minor: the oral and visual story of the documentary heritage in the social environment was published; inter-institutional scholarly contacts were intensively developed while preparing research publications and organizing the international Book Science conference Traditional and electronic publishing in a small country: experiences and perspectives; doctoral dissertation by Inga Liepaitė Expression of ideas and existence of the Lithuanian bibliophilia in the soviet period defended.

In 2013 integral research on the information management memory and information institutions was conducted with respect to the historical, methodological, theoretical and didactic aspects. International Research Projects

Collection of articles Egodocuments and Lithuanian private space from 16th to 20th centuries, based on reports read during the conference, was published in 2013. Other publications included:The Diary of Butlers’ Journey to Italy and Germany in 1779–1780; Travel Diary of Joseph George Hylzen in 1752–1754; Bibliography of Lithuanian Egodocuments et al. The search and filtering mechanisms of the information system were improved; connections between the database and the word press engine run and managed website were expanded. A new collection of publications about egodocuments was created. At the end of 2013 the database featured more than 300 archival and more than 2500 bibliographical entries. According to respective agreements LEGODOK integration with the Lithuanian cultural heritage system and European information systems is prepared in the technological aspect.

Transformation of Lithuanian Media in the Convergence Circumstances. Prof. Dr. Ž. Pečiulis, Assoc. Prof. D. Jastramskis. 2012–2016.

The aim of the project launched in 2012 is to analyze the modern media, mass media and journalism which is related with the modern technology, dissemination of information and the change of public awareness.

The members of the group working on the topic focused on changes in traditional journalism in the context of media convergence; the situation of journalist and journalism in today’s mass media system (mass media ownership; the journalist-owner relationship; content construction and production; traditionalism and innovation in journalism; technological revolution; change in audience needs). The merge of different expressions (verbal, visual and sound) in practical journalism (media convergence) are also analyzed

RESEARCH PROJECTS CARRIED OUT IN 2013

National Research Projects

Research Council of Lithuania. (No MIP-093/2013). Research on Increasing the Attractiveness and Optimizing Virtual Access of Lithuanian National Museums. Prof. Dr. Pieter van Mensch. 2013–2014.

The aim of the project is to determine the virtual access usage pattern of Lithuanian national museums in order to understand the social networking of these museums and the creation mechanism of the experience economy values added in virtual environment.

It is planned to adapt eye-tracking technology and equipment for the first time in the museum studies in Lithuania. The project research results and the generation of scientific knowledge will produce recommendations on virtual museum access optimization enabling Lithuanian museums to improve their virtual access user interfaces, to make museum more attractive to visitors, to improve the competitiveness of the museums, to increase the total value of our country’s cultural and creative industries.
