The goal of this programme is to educate specialists for research, development, education, business and public sector to solve problems in modern biomedical sciences, environment and ecology. You will gain a good knowledge of general principles of operation and pathology in live systems, the capabilities and limitations of modern biophysical methods, principles of data analysis and planning of the scientific investigation.
A holder of Master’s degree in Biophysics has good knowledge of general principles of operation and pathology in live systems, the capabilities and limitations of modern biophysical methods, principles of data analysis and planning of scientific investigation. The graduate is able to constantly renew the knowledge and apply it to solve problems. He/she is also able to transfer knowledge and concepts to specialists and non-specialists.
Completed university bachelor’s degree studies in the life sciences field group, physics and chemistry of the physical sciences field group or the psychology field of the social sciences field group.
Scientific research bachelor thesis or no less than 20 ECTS credits in a practical work scientific laboratory.
Candidates shall possess a bachelor studies cumulative grade point average of no less than 70 per cent to be admitted.
The candidates shall submit: a motivational letter and one scientific recommendation.
Those meeting the requirements shall be invited to a motivational interview.
The motivational interview is organised remotely, the time is agreed upon individually.
Six aspects are assessed: motivation to study in a Biophysics programme; English language proficiency; the reason behind choosing VU; the correlation between the professional and academic activities and the Biophysics master programme; short presentation on the bachelor thesis or the scientific experience; future plans.
Each aspect is assessed on a 5-point system. A successful candidate must get no less than 20 points. The interview is organised remotely, on an individually agreed upon time.
An interdisciplinary study program combines the knowledge of biological systems with modern physics and chemistry methods, mathematical modeling, and data analysis.
The study program can be individualized/specialized by choosing elective courses and lab for a research project.
What comes after?
A graduate can work in the high technology industry, research and development, education, medical institutions, private and public agencies where knowledge in biophysics and life sciences is acquired or applied.
Can continue a scientific career in doctoral (PhD) studies in life sciences.
