VU Opens the 438th Academic Year

On 1 September, 2016 Vilnius University opens traditionally the 438th academic year with an official opening ceremony “Renovatio Studiorum”.

The day starts with the official flag raising ceremony at the Library courtyard of the University. Traditional parade of the Vilnius University students, professors, lecturers and alumni starting from the Seimas (Parliament) of the Republic of Lithuania marches down the Gedimino street – the main street of Vilnius, heading towards the central building of Vilnius University.

Afternoon opening ceremony "Renovatio Studiorum" starting the academic year 2016–2017 is held at the University Grand Courtyard.

3473 undergraduate students and 1331 master students start their studies at the VU – the leading Lithuanian institution of higher education. 650 foreign students joined VU this year. Study programs such as Medicine, International and European Law and Business Management were the most popular programmes among the foreign students.
