VU looking for 350 academic staff, announces open competitions
On February 1, Vilnius University (VU) will be announcing the beginning of public international competitions for vacant academic positions. As every year, the university is currently looking for 350 lecturers and researchers of various fields. Documents must be submitted during the period of one month, until March 1.
Competitions are open
VU Vice-Rector for Science Prof. Edita Sužiedelienė hopes that the competitions announced by the university will attract candidates who want to join an institution that is open to ideas, innovations, opinions, and diversity.
“The university has an open, transparent, competency-oriented recruitment procedure for academic staff, with impartial procedures, and objective and non-discriminatory selection criteria applied. Information about them is publicly available to all potential candidates for the position of lecturers and researchers. We hope that the VU academic community will attract high-level experts who will want to contribute to the development of the university’s research and quality studies,” points out Vice-Rector Prof. E. Sužiedelienė.
Persons are recruited to the position of academic staff through public and open competition for a term of 5 years.
All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements specified in the Regulations on Requirements for the Positions of Lecturers and Researchers Approved by the Senate of VU are invited to apply for vacant positions of lecturers and researchers at VU through open international competitions.
International competitiveness is an important criterion
Applicants for the position of professor and chief researcher will be selected based on their international competitiveness (for example, the publication of research papers in internationally recognized publications, reading reports at international scientific conferences, etc.). This means that candidates for the highest academic positions will be selected by taking into account their possibility to contribute to the university’s international competitiveness.
The competitions will be organized in several stages. At the end of the admission stage, on March 1, the documents of the applicants meeting the minimum qualification requirements will be forwarded to the units or the Central Admission Commissions, which will assess the suitability of each applicant for the position of a lecturer or researcher. The units of the Central Administration of VU responsible for the evaluation of scientific indicators will assess whether the academic activity of applicants for the positions meet the minimum qualification requirements of the competition. If an applicant does not meet the minimum requirements, they will not be able to take part in the next stages of the competition. Eligible candidates are invited to present themselves, take part in a scientific discussion, give a trial lecture or take other forms of selection activities in the units. After the presentation of the conclusions of the expert evaluation of the applicants, the decision on the results of the competition for academic staff is made by the Rector of VU.
