VU Invites Students to Take Part in the Rectors' Scholarship Competition
Students from Vilnius University (VU) are invited to take part in the Rectors' Scholarship competition for three Baltic universities – Vilnius, Latvia and Tartu – to promote learning of the Baltic languages. Each year, the winner receives a €2,000 scholarship, awarded in turns by the university organising the competition.
"Whenever someone talks about the links between the Baltic States and universities, I always wonder: isn't it only a formal thing? And every year I am convinced of the sincere interest of young people in this competition – not only do they speak three languages, but they are also able to look at our relations in a different way: by supporting, criticizing, and, most importantly, by building the relations themselves," says one of the organisers of the competition in Lithuania, Professor Jurgis Pakerys from the Institute of Baltic Languages and Cultures at Vilnius University's Philology Faculty.
The Rectors' Scholarship is open to students at all levels of study who have a command of three Baltic languages: one at C1 level (which can be their mother tongue) and the other two at A2 level or higher. The Rectors' Scholarship contestants will compete in a written and oral competition at their home university and the final round at the University of Latvia.
This year's competition is open not only to students from these three universities, but also to students who are studying at one of other universities in the three Baltic States for both semesters of this academic year.
The deadline for submitting your essay is 31 January 2022. The final stage of the competition and the award ceremony will take place at the University of Latvia in February 2022.
