VU Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Centre – the Leader in the BalticsBone Marrow Transplant Centre of the Vilnius University Hospital „Santariškių klinikos" (further on – VU Transplant Centre) equals to the most advanced European medical transplant centres and is definitely the leader in the Baltic countries. VU Transplant Centre leads not only by the number of transplants performed but also by the positive outcomes.


According to the number of allogeneic transplants per million population Lithuania equals to Great Britain, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain, Sweden and is well ahead of countries such as Poland, Norway, Ireland, Portugal, Slovakia, Greece. Speaking of the autologous transplants VU Transplant Centre levels to France, Austria, Great Britain and Norway, it is also well ahead of Poland, the Czech Republic and Greece.

VU Transplant Centre has been recognized as the leader in Europe in terms of the number of donor searches with a successful transplant outcome - Lithuania accounted for 80 per cent, comparing it with Germany and Sweden (60-80 percent) and other countries even less.

So positive results have been achieved due to the fact that VU Transplant Centre created the necessary transplantation infrastructure, all transplantations are carefully planned, major investments done into infrastructure of the centre as well as into the medical staff.
