VU Faculty of Law Professors Appointed to be Judges of the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court of Lithuania
On Thursday, the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania appointed Giedrė Lastauskienė, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Law at Vilnius University (VU) Faculty of Law, to become a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania. Egidija Tamošūnienė and Artūras Driukas, partnership professors of the Department of Private Law, were also appointed judges of the Supreme Court of Lithuania.
The President Gitanas Nausėda submitted all three nominations. The President noted that these members of the judiciary have an impeccable reputation, distinguished personal and professional competence, as well as have accumulated a solid legal experience.
In 2002 Giedrė Lastauskienė received the degree of Doctor of Law, is a lawyer, lecturer, member of the Council of the Lithuanian National Radio and Television. In 2016, G. Lastauskienė was elected the best lecturer at the VU Faculty of Law.
Egidija Tamošūnienė has worked as a lawyer, currently holds a position in the Lithuanian Court of Appeal and was the chairperson of the Civil Files Division of this court. E. Tamošūnienė also has a doctor's degree, is a lecturer, a member of the Council of Judges.
Artūras Driukas has more than three decades of legal work experience; he has previously held the position of a judge of the Supreme Court. He was also the Chairman of the Civil Cases Division of the Lithuanian Court of Appeal. A. Driukas has a doctor's degree, teaches at VU faculty of Law and is the head of Judicial Mediation Commission of the Council of Judges.
