VU Accepted to the Prestigious Assembly of European Universities
VU has been invited to join the Coimbra Group as of 1 January 2016 – the network of prestigious European universities.
The decision to accept VU into the group was approved unanimously by the Coimbra Group members during the General Assembly in Istanbul. The first and the only University from Lithuania also the second in the Baltics after the University of Tartu – the offered membership demonstrates a significant recognition of the VU authority internationally.
"I do strongly believe that the membership in the group of so highly positioned world famous universities will promote cooperation and facilitate the implementation of joint research and study projects. It will enhance VU image and will inevitably have the positive impact on our position in international rankings", – Artūras Žukauskas, the VU Rector shares his appreciation on the news.
Founded in 1985 and formally constituted by Charter in 1987, the Coimbra Group is an association of long-established European multidisciplinary universities of high international standard. This network consists of 37 universities from 22 countries around the world and includes the universities included into the first top-hundred of the prestigious QS World University Rankings, such outstanding universities as University of Edinburgh, Trinity College, Leiden, Uppsala, Université Catholique de Louvain, Groningen, Aarhus, as well as Bologna Universities. Our neighbouring Universities from Tartu, Prague and Krakow are also enjoying the membership advantages.
