Vilnius University Announces a Competition for the Position of the Rector

53213877190 9ed6ee8288 kThe Council of Vilnius University (VU) announces an international open competition for the position of the Rector of VU. Applicants may submit their applications by 28 October 2024 at 17:00.

The status and mandate of the Rector and the procedure for the election and termination of the Rector's term of office are defined in the Statute of Vilnius University.

The Competition is open to persons of impeccable repute with a doctoral degree in science (arts) and recognised artists of impeccable repute with teaching and managerial experience. The activities of a candidate for the position must show that they are aware of the mission of the University, uphold the values, are motivated to ensure the quality of the University's activities, and have the knowledge, experience, and skills necessary to perform the duties of the Rector. The right to stand as a may also be exercised by a person who is not employed at the University at the time of application for candidature.

In 2024, the Rector’s official remuneration is EUR 14,400. At the time of the conclusion of the employment contract with the winner of the Competition, the remuneration shall be recalculated on the basis of 2024 data.

Following the registration of candidates, the VU Senate will consider the candidatures of all persons registered as candidates for the position of Rector and will submit to the VU Council its conclusions on their suitability for the post of Rector. Confirmed candidates will present themselves to the VU community in a public debate. The Rector will be elected by the VU Council by secret ballot for a five-year term of office.
