VACCELERATE – the Registry Coordinating the COVID-19 Vaccine Trials - Calls for Volunteers
VACCELERATE is a research network that was established on the initiative and with financial support of the European Commission. VACCELERATE aims to improve the response capability to the current pandemic in order to increase the ability to act – also in newly emerging pandemics – and thus to make a decisive contribution to emergency preparedness.
VACCELERATE is coordinated by the University Hospital Cologne, Germany. Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Clinics is one of the partners of this network, the project coordinator in Lithuania is Prof. Ligita Jančorienė.
To accelerate clinical trials, one of VACCELERATE's aims is to create a register of volunteers to make it easier for people who are interested in clinical trials, those who want to contribute to the advancement of science, and clinical trial organisers to find each other. It is very important to stress that agreeing to be registered in the Volunteer Register does not necessarily oblige you to participate in a clinical trial. This register will enable researchers or trial organisers to contact you, inform you about an ongoing trial (if it fits your profile) and offer you the opportunity to take part. The register is open to both adults and children (minors can be registered by a parent or guardian).
This registry is already operational in Cyprus, Ireland, Austria, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and is being implemented in Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Israel and the Netherlands. In Germany, almost 36,000 volunteers are already involved.
One of our tasks within the framework of VACCELERATE is to bring together stakeholders in the development of vaccines against the coronavirus (SARS-CoV2) with citizens who want to participate in vaccine research or other research projects on COVID-19.
