This fall more students start their studies at VU than last year
This year 4000 undergraduate students and 1424 master students will begin their studies at Vilnius University (VU). This means a 5.3 percent growth, compared to the last year.
Vilnius University remains the first choice among the countries top students. This year, 818 students, who received 100 % marks in their exams, were invited to study at the university. This is 13 % more than last year, when VU accepted 723 students with top marks.
There are five VU study programs in the top ten of the most popular study programs in Lithuania: Medicine (523 students), Law (288 students), Software engineering (270), Psychology (267) and Political sciences (238).
This year 750 international students joined VU, studying full-time or by various student exchange programs. Students came from more than forty countries; Vilnius University received most students from Italy, Germany, Spain, and France.
VU rector prof. Artūras Žukauskas congratulated the new students and admitted that the growing number of young people who want to study at VU inspires further development and strengthening of university’s positions in Europe.
“The growing trust in us, as expressed by the public and by our motivated and excellent students, makes us truly happy. Studies, based on the highest scientific standards, will remain our main commitment to the students. Education of the highest quality is of the upmost importance, if we want to achieve our goal of being among the best universities in Europe. Our students proved many times that they are the best in the world and I wish that all the new members of our community will strive to do the same” – prof. A. Žukauskas said.
This year after the first stage of admissions more students were invited to study at VU both in state funded and paid studies than last year – 5336, compared to 5290 in 2017.
Vilnius University is the first and largest university in Lithuania, the only Lithuanian university to be included in the top 500 of „QS World University Rankings 2018“. Twenty thousand students study at VU every year.
