The Unique Park of Art Installations to Open in VU Botanical Garden
Already this Friday, the 28th of October, a new artistic, educational and entertainment park of light installations will be presented to the residents and guests of the city of Vilnius, where visitors will be invited to embark on a journey of discovering light in the botanical garden of Vilnius University in Kairėnai. The exhibition features original works created by Lithuanian and Polish artists, which will introduce visitors not only to natural light sources but also those created by man. The project is included in the list of events of the Vilnius University programme dedicated to the 700th birthday of Vilnius.
“We are glad that in cooperation with our partners, the Polish company Lumina Sp. z o.o. and the artists from the two countries, we can present a programme that, we hope, will provide the visitors of the Botanical Garden not only with new unfathomed experience but also with new knowledge about light. After dark, everyone who visits the VU Botanical Garden will be able to see and learn in a different way: embark on a journey of light and new discoveries. We are glad that we will also be able to see the works of 4 famous artists. Art installations created by Jarosław Koziara, Olena Glinka, Mantas Maziliauskas and Marta Basandowska will be exhibited in the Botanical Garden. We thank the whole team – our partners from Poland and our colleagues from Lithuania, who created this extraordinary event. Thanks to this initiative and cooperation, we can invite everyone to join us on a journey of light,” said Audrius Skridaila, Director of VU Botanical Garden.
The park of light installations is located in nature, in the unique environment of Vilnius University's botanical garden in Kairėnai. Along the walking route of nearly 2 km, visitors will discover places in the garden that they have never seen before and will see the already familiar spots in a different light.
The works of the Polish and Lithuanian creators, performed in various techniques, will be exhibited until February. The artistic composition of “home fire” combines two installations: "Lumina Dome" by Lithuanian artist Mantas Maziliauskas and "Fire" by Polish artist Jaroslaw Koziara. J. Koziara will also present the artistic work "The Sun". Olena Glinka will present two works to visitors – "Abstract Masks" and "Mushrooms". The composition "Aurora Borealis" by artist Marta Basandowska is created using StringArt technology. More than 12 km of fluorescent strips and rubber bands were used for the installation.
“We are glad that Lumina Park is located in such an amazing place in the city of Vilnius – located somewhat further away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but very easily accessible – in the VU Botanical Garden in Kairėnai, where art and artistic light installations will be in full synergy with nature and plants. Light is a symbol of hope and faith, so we hope that Lumina Park will give unforgettable moments to the people of Vilnius and the guests of the capital, and brighten up the dark winter evenings," said Jan Szagdaj, manager of Lumina Park in Poland.
The organisers of the project cooperate with the Lithuanian Red Cross and will donate part of the profit to the people affected by the war in Ukraine.
Lumina Parks is open in four Polish cities – Wroclaw, Poznań, Lublin and Bydgoszcz. This year, the Lumina park of light installations will be located in several other European cities – Vilnius, Budapest and Prague.
