The Community of Vilnius University Has Lost Prof. Stanislovas Algimantas Martišius
The community of Vilnius University (VU) has lost Stanislovas Algimantas Martišius (1937-2022), Professor of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, habilitated doctor of social sciences, and former dean.
In 1959, Professor graduated from the VU Faculty of Economics. In 1966, he defended his thesis at the Institute of Economics of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and became a candidate in economic sciences. In 1981, Professor defended his thesis at the Moscow Institute of National Economy and was awarded the title of Doctor of Economic Sciences.
Prof. S. A. Martišius taught at the Faculty of Economics from 1968-1970 and was the head of the Department of Statistics in 1987, 1989-2004. Later he became a Dean of the Faculty of Economics (1990-2002), and in 1988 became a professor.
He was actively engaged in scientific activities throughout his life. He was the chairman of the Social Sciences Commission of the Lithuanian Science Council and the editor-in-chief of the journal "Lithuanian Statistics Works", one of the first in Lithuania to start examining the scientific legacy of Lithuanian economists. He published more than 100 scientific articles.
S. A. Martišius – Professor, chronicler of Lithuanian statistics history who, after the Restoration of the State of Lithuania, was the pioneer of modern statistics, promoted Western traditions and published more than 100 publications. As Head of the Statistics Department of the Economic Cybernetics and Finance Faculty of Vilnius University, he promoted the purpose of statistics as methodological applied science and its role in training qualified specialists in economics. Among the guests, there were many of his former students and colleagues to whom the Professor gave inspiration for creation and development.
On September 22 at 6:00 p.m., a mass will be held in St. John's Church to honor his memory. On September 23, from 13:00 in St. John's Church, VU invites the community to say condolences and honor the Professor. September 24 1:00 p.m., the urn will be taken from St. John's Church.
