President of Armenia Visited Vilnius University and Met with Students
On the 20th of April, President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan visited Vilnius University (VU). The President was accompanied by the Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia Robert Khachatryan, the Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan and Rector of Yerevan State University Dr. Hovhannes Hovhannisyan.
President V. Khachaturyan gave a lecture “Armenia: an imperative to build a new society (democracy and free market economy)”. There was a discussion with VU students, moderated by Prof. Alfreda Šapkauskienė, Head of the Department of Finance at the VU Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. The lecture was held with simultaneous translation from Armenian to Lithuanian at the Scholarly Communication and Information Centre.
The Armenian delegation was welcomed by VU vice-rector Prof. Edita Sužiedėlienė and VU Faculty of Economics adnd Business Administration dean Prof. Aida Mačerinskienė. After the lecture, the politicians visited the VU Life Sciences Center. Dr. Daumantas Matulis, Director of the Center, to the guests presented the possibilities and applications of CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing technology in the department of Protein-Nucleic Acids Interactions. In the microtechnology sector Prof. Linas Mažutis presented the development of droplet microfluidics technologies for biological and biomedical applications. In the laboratory of the Department of Bioelectrochemistry and Biospectroscopy Dr. Marija Jankunec demonstrated the use of Atomic force microscopy in the development of lipid-based biosensors.
During the visit of the Armenian delegation to Lithuania, Pro-Rector for Partnerships dr. Artūras Vasiliauskas met the Rector of Yerevan State University dr. Hovhannes Hovhannisyan. Opportunities for university cooperation were discussed at the meeting.
