Polish Head of Diplomacy Zbigniew Rau to visit Vilnius University
On the 6th of September, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. Zbigniew Rau will visit Vilnius University (VU). The politician will meet Rector Prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas and participate in a discussion with VU students.
The guest accompanied by Rector Prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas and Pro-Rector for Partnerships Dr. Artūras Vasiliauskas will visit VU’s central architectural ensemble and the Church of St. Johns.
The rector is glad that VU consistently contributes to the strengthening of the ties between Lithuania and Poland.
“Historically, Vilnius University has always been a hub of the cultural and intellectual commonality for the Lithuanians and the Poles. Therefore, it is only natural that the University supplements and expands the political component in these days as well. Vilnius University has an important place in the Polish history and culture, too.
Another important aspect is that the visiting political leaders and diplomats from abroad choose to have discussions not only with representatives of the rectorate, but also with VU students. This highlights the University’s intellectual potential and the fact that it is a community where future leaders arise,” said Prof. Petrauskas.
Minister Prof. Rau will participate in a discussion with first-year students of VU Institute of International Relations and Political Science (IIRPS). The discussion will be presided by VU IIRPS Lecturer Dr. Marijušas Antonovičius.
“The key discussion points during the meeting will be the main vectors and challenges of the Polish foreign policy. Poland is a crucial international player in Central Europe; therefore, the talks will not be limited to bilateral relationship between Lithuania and Poland,” told Dr. Antonovičius.
In 1982, the head of Polish diplomacy earned the doctor’s degree in law at University of Łódź, he was a lecturer at higher education institutions in Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia and the USA. The VU’s guest also was a governor of Łódź Voivodeship and a member of the Polish parliament.
In recent years, VU was visited by French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya, Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, and other prominent foreign policy makers.
The Minister’s discussion with the students will be broadcast live on VU’s Facebook and YouTube accounts.
