Lithuanian Team Prepares for a Prestigious Global CompetitionThis year the team of the VU students will represent Lithuania in the prestigious student synthetic biology competition iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition) for the second time already.

Over 300 teams of the world’s largest universities will compete in Boston (USA) for the 11th time at the ongoing iGEM competition.

The main goal of the Lithuanian team is to demonstrate the potential of biotechnology science, to introduce the achievements of our country and to promote entrepreneurship in the area of life sciences.

In the meantime, the team is at the consideration stage when the solution on the main idea for presentation at IGEM has to be developed. The students will implement the generated idea during the summer and will transfer on to the next research stage in the laboratories.

The debut of the Lithuanian (VU) team at the “IGEM” competition last year was an absolute success – the team received the golden award for the bacterial system ColiClock.

The iGEM Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to education and competition, advancement of synthetic biology, and the development of open community and collaboration. The iGEM Foundation inspires future synthetic biologists by hosting student-led teams in the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition.
