Lithuanian physicists and engineers among global leaders of laser technologies

Lately, the success of Lithuanian scientific institutions and laser production companies' is being reported louder and louder in the world.

Cooperation of the physicists from Vilnius University with the engineers from laser manufacturing companies EKSPLA and Light Conversion resulted in the development and deployment of international access laser complex NAGLIS which is being installed in the VU Laser Research Centre.
The productive above teams started receiving orders from various laboratories worldwide.
In 2017 the extreme light infrastructure – the so called ELI is going to be launched. Over 40 global research and business institutions are involved in the development of ELI, Lithuania included. Powerful lasers will be built in three Eastern European countries – the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania, while the fourth is planned in the UK. This will become a place of interdisciplinary research, using lasers and generated secondary radiation. The worldwide international laser research facilities are being created with the active participation of Lithuanian laser manufacturers EKSPLA and Light Conversion.
One of the ELI project objectives – to encourage Eastern European researchers develop active research teams in their countries and to slow down negative „brain drain" process.
