International Congress Uncertain Landscapes of the University of Minho
The University of Minho invites Arqus researchers to participate in the International Congress Uncertain Landscapes that will take place in Guimarães (Portugal) from 22nd to 24th November 2023.
The position of human beings towards the built environment cannot be limited to being mere observers. They are part of it and that old dominant perspective has radically changed: proximity has replaced distance, uncertainty has weakened any framework, and complexity has destroyed harmony.
The Congress, organized by the Laboratory for Landscapes, Heritage and Territory (Lab2PT) of the University of Minho, aims to address Uncertain Landscapes as a conceptual tool to rethink the way of being in the world, break disciplinary boundaries and seek new positions in the present, from the past and towards a more permeable future.
The organisers invite abstract and paper proposals from scholars, professionals, theorists, etc., working in research areas such as architecture, landscape architecture, archaeology, visual arts, design, media and communication studies, history, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, history of art, photography, geography, geology, different branches of the natural sciences and any other related research fields.
The call for papers is open until 15th May.
The event focuses on six themes:
- Vulnerabilities, weaknesses, and conflicts.
- Transdisciplinarity or (in)disciplinarity.
- Materials, tools, and transformations.
- Narratives for new history and stories. Revealing invisibilities.
- A common construction. Policies and actions.
- Walking and migrating – movement as landscape construction.
