First Lithuanian Photo from Space Reached the Homeland
In the afternoon of the May 21st the first Lithuanian photo of the Earth from space was broadcasted by the National TV directly to the public from the White Hall of the Vilnius University Library.
Capturing the Earth from space, sending the photo to a satellite control station at Vilnius University, downloading and decoding it - were the most ambitious tasks for the team of the satellite „LituanicaSAT-1", which were complicated successfully.
President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, Acting Rector of the Vilnius University Jūras Banys, the academic community and the development team of the satellite „LituanicaSAT-1" participated at this significant event.
The first photo was made by a satellite flying over the Pacific Ocean towards South America this year on 8 April. Downloading of the photos was the most time consuming process as it was possible to download up to 5-6 kilobytes of data only during a single session.
The satellite „LituanicaSAT-1" was released into the open space on 28 February 2014.
