CERN exhibition attracted over 10 thousand visitors

CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) exhibition “Accelerating Science” was recently closed after four months of operation at the National Physical and Technological Sciences Center. It had over 10 thousand of attendees from various Lithuanian and foreign institutions. Residents from more than thirty Lithuanian cities and towns visited the exhibition, organized by VU. They came mainly from the secondary or higher education institutions, non-formal education centers, government and private sector, such as, banks, ministries, municipalities, public institutions, churches and various associations.

“CERN exhibition was an extraordinary scientific and cultural event not only for VU, but throughout Lithuania. We hope that this exhibition will encourage students to expand their interest and challenge them choose studies in physics. It was a great pleasure to see that the exhibition attracted a large population from the regions. We thank sincerely all Lithuanian institutions and private corporations for sponsorship, thank curators, guides and volunteers for their unreserved input “, - prof. Rimantas Jankauskas, VU Pro-rector commented on the success of the event.

CERN exhibition provided an opportunity to Vilnius University to establish a closer relationship with the society, which is backed away from science. Many non-academic members of the public were surprised and felt proud of the fact that Lithuanian scientists work in big international projects, such as CERN.

Items on display for the exhibition “Accelerating Science“ were created by the funding received from the H. Dudley Wright Fund. The exhibition in Lithuania was patronized by Dalia Grybauskaitė, the President of the Republic of Lithuania.
