Baltic Universities Librarians Met in Riga

Baltic Universities Librarians Met in Riga.The lasting friendship between the Baltic university libraries from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia brought them together in Riga in April. So far the librarians of Vilnius University and University of Latvia had the tradition to hold joint meetings, seminars. This year the colleagues from Tartu University joined the meeting partners in the University of Latvia in Riga in order to share experiences, discuss innovative approaches towards the library development related issues.

During the present meeting it was decided to focus on the application of the information services in the scientific process. VU library team together with the colleagues from Latvia and Estonia shared the achievements of scientific information management and dissemination activities, discussed the information resources and services for scientific data management during the three-day seminar.

Directors of University libraries - dr. Iveta Gudakovska (University of Latvia), Irena Krivienė (Vilnius University) and Liisi Lembinen (Tartu University) presented their strategic plans in the area of scientific research.

During the following sessions, scientometrics and scientific communication processes, development of information systems, issues of electronic resources and open access to scientific information as well as many other urgent questions have been discussed.
