Arqus Organises an Interdisciplinary Webinar Series on Climate Change and Sustainable Development
As part of the Arqus Alliance, the University of Lyon 1 is organising a series of webinars on climate change and sustainable development from October to December 2024. This innovative programme aims to train students and researchers to tackle the challenges of climate change and sustainable development through a multidisciplinary approach. This series will be followed by a Winter School in March 2025.
The University of Lyon 1, as a member of the Arqus Alliance, is hosting an interdisciplinary webinar series on climate change and sustainable development. This series of online webinars, led by researchers and academics from seven member universities of Arqus (Wroclaw, Vilnius, Granada, Minho, Padua, Graz, Lyon 1), is designed to promote a multidisciplinary approach, offering students and researchers a unique education incorporating the latest research advances in the field of climate change and sustainable development.
The main objectives of this initiative are to broaden the approach of Master’s programs by integrating complementary disciplines, to strengthen the links between students and research activities, and to foster collaboration between researchers in this crucial area.
Each partner university will highlight key topics, ranging from the physics of aerosols and greenhouse gases to the “One Health” approach to climate change, as well as historical pollen data and its impact on plant species.
These webinars are primarily aimed at Master’s students and early-career researchers but are open to all those interested in the subject, including researchers seeking to initiate cooperative projects between Arqus partner universities.
The webinars will take place on Tuesdays starting at 5:30 PM from October to mid-December (see the full program below).

- 15 October. Dr. Paloma Cariñanos Gonzalez Granada (Spain) Department of Botany. Faculty of Pharmacy. Climate change and urban vegetation through pollen emissions: effects on health and the environment.
- 5 November. Dr. Agata Dorotkiewicz-Jach Wroclaw (Poland) Biological sciences, Dpt of Pathogens and Immunology AntiMicrobial Resistance (AMR) in the Changing Climate: Sustainable Approaches to Combat AMR.
- 12 November. Dr. Hernâni Gerós Minho (Portugal) Biology Department – School of Sciences Climate Change: Threats to Global Agriculture.
- 19 November. Prof. Francesco Pagliacci Padua (Italy) Department of Land, Environment, Agriculture and Forestry Climate change and agri-food Geographical Indications: between vulnerability and adaptation.
- 3 December. Dr. Justas Kažys Vilnius (Lithuania) Faculty of Chemistry and Geoscicences Importance of climate change adaptation.
- 10 December. Dr. Steffen Birk Graz (Austria) Earth Science Department Groundwater in climate change.
- 17 December. Dr. Mateusz Strzelecki Wroclaw (Poland) Cold Region Research Center Arctic Regions under Warming climate – key environmental and socio-economic challenges.
Each webinar will be structured as follows:
- Introduction to the topic (20 minutes)
- Scientific content and related research (20 minutes)
- Questions and discussions among the seven partner universities (20 to 40 minutes)
