Archaeologists from All Over the World Meet at VU

The Congress of the European Association of Archaeologists is being held at Vilnius University during 31 August - 4 September. It is expected to attract around 1,500 scientists and researchers from Europe, Asia, North America and Australia.

The Congress is divided into 108 sections. Scientists will discuss the interpretation of archaeological data, archaeological heritage management and its adaptation for present day needs, archaeological theory and methodology, interdisciplinary approach to archeology. A special section is devoted to "Brexit" influence on Archaeology.

Due to the fact that the Congress is held in Lithuania, a particular attention will be paid to the Baltic region. So far, this region has been often considered to be "a white spot" of the world archeology. Prof. R. Jankauskas, VU vice-rector and the member of the Congress Scientific Committee states, that VU has developed a long research tradition and strong archaeology school, which has been started before the war. Lithuanian archaeologists participate successfully today in various international research projects, share the data and contribute professionally to existing interpretations. 

The world's most famous academic institutions, libraries and publishing houses will exhibit their information stands during the 22th Congress of the European Association of Archaeologists. The participants of the Congress will be introduced to our country's cultural and archaeological heritage during the short scientific site visits.
