Ambassador of Israel visited VU

Ambassador of Israel visited VUVU had an honourable guest – Amir Maimon, Israel's first ambassador to Lithuania last week.

Professor Jūras Banys, VU Acting Rector introduced VU guests to the history of the ancient university, presented the present day achievements, discussed the strategic goals and prospective plans of the VU. Specific issues of Jewish heritage, Lithuanian relations with Israel have also been addressed.

A major attention was drawn to the discussions on the enhancement of future collaboration between the two countries.

Both parties will endeavour to carry out cooperation in the areas of life sciences, renewable and nuclear energy.

A. Maimon is the first Israeli ambassador, residing in Lithuania. The country's first embassy in Vilnius was opened in late January. A. Maimon has previously worked as a diplomat in embassies in the US, the UK, Ethiopia, Turkey and Canada.
