Discussing the Role of Languages in European University Alliances
Arqus will participate in the conference “Languages in European University Alliances: challenges and issues” organised by the European Council for Languages, which will be held at the University of Seville on 1st and 2nd December 2022.
The CEL/ELC Forum will bring together participants and more than 50 speakers from 10 different alliances. They will share their experiences, and reflections on the role of languages in the European University concept, on HELP (Language Policy in Higher Education), on strategies, methodologies and actions for the promotion of plurilingualism and on mutual understanding in a multilingual environment.
The Conference aims to be a space to discuss the relevant role of languages in the promotion of European values and identities, addressing some important questions: Which new frameworks must be designed (and by who) for science communication, knowledge transfer and multilingual needs? Which will be the role of languages in University Alliances’ strategies for interdisciplinary and intercultural approaches, maintaining different contextual linguistic, rhetorical, and disciplinary traditions?
Alba Delgado, Olaf Bärenfänger and Kerstin Gackle from Leipzig University, and Guadalupe Soriano from the University of Granada, all of them members of the Arqus Work Package 11 “Arqus Plurilingual and Intercultural Hub”, will talk about the Language Policy and Language Activities in the Arqus European University Alliance. Namely, they will hold two presentations on the activities developed in the first phase of the Alliance, such as the Arqus Language Policy, the Arqus Café and the Arqus Termbase, as well as the activities planned for the next four years. The event will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Seville.
