Arqus Organises an Online Lecture on Language Students in Work Practices within the Series “Seven Months, Seven Universities”
The series of guest lectures “Seven months, seven universities” launches the second episode of the new edition: “Language Students in Work Practices: A Course” by Kari Soriano, associate professor, and Hanne Svanholm, advisor, at the University of Bergen. The webinar will take place online on 24th February at 10:00 am CET.
Students of foreign languages learn skills and competencies independent of a specific sector. In the increasing globalization the world has experienced during the last decades, this means that their future is open to jobs in many fields such as administration, tourism, industry, museums, services, banking, schools, and universities.
This seminar will present a course offered at the University of Bergen specifically designed to connect students who wish to earn credits through internships with different companies and institutions.
Language Students in Work Practices aims to demonstrate the professional competence that language studies provide through work practice abroad or in Norway. Through observation, interaction, professional practice, reflection, and guidance, students gain a better insight and awareness into their professional role in the workplace.
The talk is given by:
- Associate Professor Kari Soriano Salkjelsvik is the academic coordinator of the course Language Students in Work Practices. Before returning to UiB, she was a Lecturer in the United States and Spain. Her research interests are 19th-century Latin American literature and cultures, Mexico, 19th-century conservatism, regionalism and "costumbrismo," aesthetic representations of landscapes and territories, geography, the economics of water, and teaching literature.
- Advisor Hanne Svanholm Misje is the administrative coordinator of the course Language Students in Work Practices. She works as the Acting Administrative Head of Studies at the Department of Foreign Languages, a job that includes being the head of the study group at the department, working with UiB’s Quality Assurance System, and internationalization.
This is the ninth of a series of guest lectures (“Seven months, seven universities”) to be offered in the framework of the Action Line 4 of Arqus, Multilingual and Multicultural University (sub-line 4.8). These lectures focus on specific topics related to language and culture and target mainly graduate and post-graduate students as well as early-stage researchers interested in those topics. It will be broadcast live on the Arqus YouTube channel. The webinar will take place on 24th February at 10:00 am CET.
